Abstract
Combining work and family life has never been easy. The more we get involved in a career, the more difficulties we have, to reconcile it with household chores. The problem of role conflict relates to the representatives of various professions, including academics. In the literature one can find the term 'choose-or-lose' dilemma of either having a family and children or striving to achieve a more superior position in science.
This article therefore focuses on the description of the pro-family policy implemented in chosen countries in relation to the topic of work-life balance – on the one hand, and on the other hand, the article provides information about the institutional arrangements that facilitate researchers to combine family and professional roles - implemented in various universities in the world. It is interesting to find out, which of theses strategies are possible to implement in Poland.
