Young Researchers Workshop





The LCM Young Researchers Workshop (YRW) is intended to be a full-day satellite event of the LCM  conferences, aimed at graduate students and junior scholars conducting theoretical or empirical research in language and communication including, but not limited to cognitive, social, affective, embodied and/or cultural perspectives. The workshop will provide a forum to share research findings, compare approaches and methodologies, and foster interaction and debate in the context of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Young researchers in anthropology, biology, linguistics, philosophy, psychology, semiotics, semantics, discourse analysis, cognitive and neuroscience are invited to share, and thereby enrich, their study of human natural language and communication. We welcome abstract submissions that include pilot data, preliminary findings, and research toward doctoral or post-doctoral candidacy.

  • exchange contacts and reference
  • foster interaction and debate
  • forge a new professional community using social networking and new media that will highlight interdisciplinary collaboration

Structure of the Workshop

Candidates eligible for submission are graduate students and those who have completed a doctoral dissertation within the last three years. Successful candidates will be allotted a 30-minute time slot, comprising a 20-minute presentation, and 10-minutes for peer commentary anddiscussion with the audience. Candidates may submit abstracts to both the LCM V Conference and the Young Researchers Workshop as long as the topics are different (i.e., you may not submit the same abstract to both events). Accepted abstracts will be available online prior to the workshop on a designated interactive web platform. The web platform will allow participants to become familiar with each others’ work in advance by engaging in online discussions and providing and receiving comments and feedback, which will set the stage for an effective exchange of ideas during the workshop.
